Desert - rocky outcrops ...

I coughed up some dosh and bought the Battlefield in the Box desert escarpments set. To fit them in with my table I covered the rear part with the felt I am using and put some sand scatter on to cover the edges at the top ....

Desert - the dune dilemma ....

I wanted to represent some sand dunes on the table. Eventually I settled on sticking some felt over a cardboard base with former ..

I made up a short section of add-on backdrop to indicate desert in the distance; small sand-dunes in front
and a view across the table ...
simple and dune-like  😁.  I have some felt left and may make a couple more....

Desert/Arid - some lumps ....

Sorted out some lumps or small rises, I used felt for these. I made up a few of these countoured rises with about 8 layers of felt...

these are turned over and smoothed down,  simple and looks reasonable..

Better desert back scenes ...

I've been working on providing better back scenes for the setting of desert/arid region games.

I bought a 10ft long Desert/Arid back scenes  (from the New Modellers Shop, see http://www.newmodellersshop.co.uk/backscenes.htm).  I cut up some 3mm MDF in 8inch widths to use as additional back scene boards, these rest reasonably well again the fixed ones and can be held in place with blue tack if needed. The back scene papers were glued to the boards and the excess trimmed off.

For better side back scene boards I re-used my new sky ones (See http://adventures-in-the-indies.blogspot.co.uk/2018/02/alternative-table-back-scene-boards.html ),  along with the best bits of the offcuts and stuck them to some stiff card, these rest nicely against the plain sky side boards.

It all looks quite effective with my sandy-ish coloured felt game cloth and limited amount of desert/arid scenic items.

next bits to do are some more sandy lumps and bumps; and figure out the best way to represent sand dunes.
